Christmas is coming!

We have been getting ready for our holiday festivities for a month and now it's finally here! We are rehearsing for our Xmas show, singing special songs (in 2 languages!) and decorating our classroom. There is so much anticipation for the special time we'll have with family and friends. And let's not forget the jolly elf in the red suit. Check the clothesline over the 3s cubbies for what your children are asking for!

That said, I, on behalf of the 3s teachers, would like to wish you all the best of holidays, whatever you celebrate, and lots of good health and happiness for the year to come. Can you believe it's nearly 2018 already? Where did the time go?

See you next year,
Miss Karen

Run, run, fast as you can...!

Gingerbread Day was a roaring success with the 3s classes. We read the story of the naughty cookie then mixed up a batch of our very own. Then what do you know? That crazy cookie escaped from the oven and lead us on a merry chase through the school. We finally found him in Miss Heidi's office trying to escape by calling a taxi! But we showed him... he was deeeelish!!

911 is not for spaghetti!

That was one of the important lessons that we learned at the fire station when the 3s had our field trip. The exact words were: "Do we call 911 when your spaghetti falls on the floor? NO! We call 911 when someone is hurt." Other important lessons were:

  • Find a safe place to meet outside your house if your smoke alarm goes off
  • Never go back inside a fire for toys or pets
  • Don't be afraid of firefighters in their gear
  • Williams Park can very very windy on a blustery day!

The last of the leaves

The cold weather has descended and our yard goes back and forth between wet and muddy and dry and sandy. At least it's fun no matter what we do! Be sure to check the white board outside our class for the weather and, as always, dress to get messed!

All the leaves have all blown off our big, beautiful trees and we had lots of fun rolling around in them. Fortunately we had the chance before they turned into the sloppy, goopy mess that they are today.

We're looking forward to the next step of fun in our yard. Big fluffy drifts of snow! Stay tuned...

It's bathtime!

Even plastic babies need baths sometimes. So for the last few weeks we've had a place for them to get nice and clean. Our ever changing, ever creative water play table.

And lucky for us, we have several helpful "mummies" and "daddies" who are willing to take on the daunting task. But those babies don't wiggle very much so how do our carers still get so wet??

Its Garbage Day!

Learning about our community and the people who help it run smoothly is one of our goals here at BCCNS. To further that goal, garbage day has become a big deal. When we hear the rumble of the truck, someone shouts "GARBAGE DAY!!" and there's a rush to the fence. Then the poor collector has try to to do his job with his screaming fans clamouring and waving at the fence. It really is quite the sight!

We even get a wave back most times!

Making sure it all goes in the noisy truck

Looks like inspection was passed!

There's always fun to be had here at school!

Halloween Photo Explosion!

Rather than drone on and on about Halloween and children's self esteem or the politics of candy distribution in an era of starvation, we thought we'd just go ahead and show you the fun time we had at our Halloween parties. Check out our cool costumes and pumpkin fun!

Apologies for all the "disguised" faces. But after all, it is Halloween! The children were just to proud of their costumes, they couldn't help but smile for the camera!

PS: Be sure to check out the clothesline in the hall for more great photographs. We took a lot that we couldn't put here!

Halloween is fast approaching

So that means spooky learning ahead. We have been counting and sorting pumpkins and playing with creepy crawly bugs in a lot of our learning centres. We have been learning about how pumpkins grow, singing songs and reciting poems about pumpkins and may even taste them next week! There has even been a story book about teamwork using ghouls of all kinds. This time of year is not for the faint of heart!

Ask your child what his/her favourite class activity has been. We'll top off the season with a little class costume party with dancing and treats!

Halloween joke bonus!

Q: Who won the skeleton beauty contest?
A: No body

Have a "sweet" week,
Miss Karen

PS: Be sure to check the 3s whiteboard board daily for more terrible jokes!

Making the best of a sticky situation

We've had 4 rolls of masking tape available in our class since the first day of school. Last week the children discovered it at the art table and did things like this:

Which was totally expected.

Then this happened...

Which was TOTALLY FANTASTIC!!!

Check out the clothesline above the cubbies for some more shots of the action. That day will really be stuck in our memories as a day that bonded the class!
