Pumpkin fun!

For the last few days we have been exploring pumpkins in our classes. Guessing what's inside at circle time, feeling and smelling the pulp at sensory areas, carving, planting the seeds and even naming them. Pete Pumpkin was a popular choice. At our parties we plan to taste pumpkin seeds and even have a few cooked pumpkin chunks to expand our palates. Who knew that a few pumpkins could provide so many days of fun activities?

Oh yeah... we teachers did!

Here's a poem we say in class:

5 Little pumpkins sitting on a gate
The first one said "Oh my it's getting late!"
The second one said "There are witches in the air"
The third one said "Well, I don't care"
The fourth one said "Let's run and run and run"
The fifth one said "It's Halloween fun!"
OOooo went the wind and out go the lights and the 5 little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

Apple Orchard fun!

We had such a great time at Mountain Orchard this year! We rode a wagon into the trees and filled our bags with goodies. Even though there were only a few apples left on the trees, we still got to climb ladders, play in the hay and on the playground played and had fun in the fresh air and hay. If there's a better way to enjoy a beautiful Canadian autumn day, we don't know it! Heaven!

Housekeeping!

You see a plastic kitchen set and play shoes. We see a world of imagination and opportunity. Here are a few skills that the children develop in our Dramatic Play Area:

  • Role Playing
  • Use of props/materials
  • Pretending/make believe
  • Attention span
  • Social skills
  • Communication
So much learning in such a small space!
