Sometimes a uke is not quite enough

No offense to Miss Karen but sometimes we need to see and hear some new and different instruments. Enter a dad from our neighbours the 2s class. He played the piano, an accordion and the guitar. We had an amazing time and a big shout-out to multi-talented parents!

New possibilities, new play

We have a "foyer" in the middle of our yard that has been a challenge to use effectively. It stayed empty and children would just run (or bike) in and straight back out, occasionally climbing the little trellis at the entrance. Not quite the fulfilling play we're looking for.

One little kitchen set and a picnic table table later and we have a sweet kitchen setup. We've provided pots and pans and play food and the children build on it with sand from the sandbox for delicious cakes and nutritious meals. Often the children will stay in there for the duration of outside play, mixing and scooping and making the most elaborate banquets known to preschool-kind.

We're so proud of our little chefs!

What happens when you mix playdough and Mr. Potato Head?

What we have here is an excellent example of naif surrealism sculptural portraiture, in the medium of reusable, non-toxic modelling compound.

We were told by the esteemed artist that the subject in question is (of course) Miss Heidi.

We do see a bit of a resemblance around the eyes...

BCCNS on the farm

Many thanks to our awesome parent volunteers for helping and the Central Experimental Farm for hosting our annual trip to the farm. We had great weather and a terrific time was had by all. If anything beats a nice day outside the classroom with a picnic thrown in for good measure, we don't know what it is!

A kid petting a kid

They were so new!

What were you, born yesterday? The answer is YES!

This kid likes kids' coats

A great photo op near a giant chicken

Lucy likes to lick

Testing tractor tires. For some reason they preferred the bumpy tire

Getting a boost from Miss Heidi

"Hercules... hero of song and story!"

So soft!

If you dig your fingers down to the skin, you reach the greasy lanolin. Cool! And also, gross...

We loved the little kids!

Picnic time!

After the picnic, more animals!

We did so much mooing, the cows thought we were family!

Goodbye farm! See you next year...
